Even after the Battle of Gettysburg, the Confederacy stubbornly fought back against the Union. The Atlanta Campaign was a Union effort to destroy the Army of Tennessee, which was the South's last best hope for defending the Confederacy.  They certainly did not make it easy for the North. At the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia, Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston managed to stop the Union forces temporarily, exacting a heavy toll in blood from the Union attackers.

In addition to providing extensive details about the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, this book details the Atlanta Campaign and the aftermath of the battle. The author, Daniel J. Vermilya, is a Civil War historian and a park ranger at Antietam National Battlefield and Gettysburg National Military Park.
