Originally created as a national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1909, Olympic National Park was designated a national park by President Franklin Roosevelt on June 29, 1938. The park contains over 900,000 acres, 95% of which was set aside as the Olympic Wilderness by Congress in 1988. The glacier covered mountains, wild rivers, temperate rainforests and undeveloped coastline is home to the piper's bellflower, Olympic marmot and Roosevelt Elk.
