Minuteman Missile National Historic Site Hiking Stick Medallion

During the Cold War, steps were taken to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) to ensure that the United States had a nuclear deterrent. These ICBMs were named Minuteman missiles, an homage to the original colonial Minutemen militias. Like those early American patriots, the Minuteman missiles could be enabled at a moment’s notice.
