Comprising 300 square miles and 200,000 acres of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah National Park preserves the natural resources of this area while providing important glimpses into Civil War history. The Confederate army used these mountains to conceal its movements, and Major General Thomas Stonewall Jackson fought several battles throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Most of the area is covered in forest, providing a vast area of wilderness to explore and more than enough recreational options.
Once you see its strong combination of historical connections, natural beauty and outdoors possibilities, you'll realize that a day is just not enough time to spend here!
