As the Battle to Save Washington raged around the Worthington House on the Monocacy river in 1864, the Worthington family took shelter in the cellar. Six year old Glenn Worthington watched the battle through the boards and was so impressed by the scene that he wrote a definitive historical account of the battle as an adult in 1932.
