Mary Todd Lincoln was the First Lady and wife to the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. She was a well-educated woman from a wealthy Kentucky family and was courted by Lincoln’s rival, Stephen A. Douglas before she married. Despite having several brothers serve in the Confederate Army, Mary supported her husband and was active in keeping up morale during the Civil War, visiting soldiers in the hospital, sending flowers and fruit and writing letters. She was seated next to Lincoln when he was assassinated at Ford’s Theatre. This fan is inspired by the many fans Mary would have use. With a Civil War Era design on one side and portraits of Mary on the other, this fan is the perfect fit for the person trying to stay cool in the Washington D.C. summer.
