Built in 1723, the Old North Church is the oldest standing church in Boston. The fame of the building began on the evening of April 18, 1775 when sexton Robert Newman and Capt. John Pulling, Jr. climbed the steeple to display two lanterns as a signal from Paul Revere alerting that ''the British were coming.''
