The planting of cherry trees originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the people of the United States from the people of Japan. The popularity of the trees led them to be planted along the Washington, D.C. avenues and in 1935 the first ''Cherry Blossom Festival'' was sponsored by many civic organizations, becoming an annual event in years to follow. This magnet depicts art from renowned artist Simon Bull showing the beauty of cherry blossom trees.

Purchased this 2019 Cherry Blossom Festival Magnet for gifts after returning from seeing the Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC. It is very pretty and well made. Also purchased the matching coffee mug. Everyone loved the gifts.
