This collectible patch stitches together the military prowess and ethnic diversity of the New World preserved at Castillo san de Marcos National Monument. A red rimmed blue banner lines the border reading Castillo de San Marcos Saint Augustine, Florida, in memory of the Spanish colonists who constructed the masonry star fort on the shores of Matanzas Bay. In the center, the remarkable military shelter is displayed, its impressive bastions spills over the border. The bastions were patrolled by sentries and cannons were installed for additional fire power and the surrounding land was shaped to form sloping passages that put enemies directly in their line of fire. Over three centuries, the formidable stronghold did exchange hands but never by force.
