Established in 1952, Christiansted National Historic Site was the first unit of the National Park System in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The park contains five historic buildings that are rare examples of 18th century European architecture in the New World.
The park's historic buildings and grounds commemorate the Danish heritage of Christiansted, St. Croix. Indeed, Fort Christiansværn, the most prominent building, was named in honor of Christian IV, King of Denmark and Norway during the early 1700's.
