ANP Item:

Established in 1936 at Beatrice, Nebraska, this national park commemorates the development of the United States through the Homestead Act of 1862. The original 160-acre claim of Daniel Freeman, the Palmer-Epard Cabin, and a one-room schoolhouse chronicle events that changed the land, people, and public policy in the West. Beckoned by free land, settlers braved the isolation and rigors of the windswept prairie to homestead this area. In all, 270 million acres, 10 percent of the land in the U.S., were turned over to homesteaders, resulting in profound and lasting changes to the land, American Indians, immigration, industry, and agriculture. Magnet and Patch measure 3-1/2 H x 2-3/4 W. Pin measures 1-1/8 H x 7/8 W.
