Standing today at the mouth of the Savannah River in Georgia, Fort Pulaski is a monument to a bygone era of military defense techniques that were outdone by superior technology. The Confederate soldiers manning the fort thought that it was safe from the artillery common in their time. They were right, but the Union forces two-and-a-half miles away were not using the normal artillery of the day. Their new, rifled cannons ensured a longer range of fire with greater speed and accuracy. Not surprisingly, the Union assault was successful, resulting in the Confederates' surrender.
Handcrafted in solid brass and finished in pure 24K gold, this collectible item captures the monument in a small but attractive ornament. Etched from original artwork by Gregory J. Harber, it features an illustration showing an aerial view of Fort Pulaski, making it a unique decoration for home or office.
