Democratic Donkey Pewter Key Ring

Item#: 335651

During his 1828 presidential campaign, Andrew Jackson's opponents initiated an effor to label him an impolite word for donkey. The ever-savvy Jackson responded by co-opting the insult, eventually using an image of a donkey on his own materials. By 1880 the donkey had become the de facto symbol of the Democratic Party, which still uses a donkey mascot to this day.
