Eighth president of the United States and the first one that was born an American citizen, Martin Van Buren served in the Oval Office during a period of severe economic depression. During his presidency, there were 26 states in the Union, and the flag of the United States during his term reflects that with its 26 stars.
Bordered with gold and bearing a deep blue background, this oval embroidered patch pays tribute to Van Buren with a portrait of him set against the 26-star flag. Completing the tribute is the eighth president's name along with the words 8th PRESIDENT 1837–1841.
