A truly fearless leader, General Thomas J. ''Stonewall'' Jackson earned his famous nickname early in the Civil War during the Battle of Manassas (also known as the First Battle of Bull Run) in July 1861. When he bravely advanced his men to resist a Federal assault, an officer called out, ''Look, men, there is Jackson standing like a stone wall!''
Tribute is paid to Jackson at Manassas National Battlefield Park in the form of a monument standing tall and stark just as Stonewall himself probably looked on that summer day back in 1861. An image of that monument boldly greets you on this embroidered patch that remembers both Jackson and the national park.
