Fort Matanzas was completed in 1742 by the Spanish empire at the southern entrance of the Matanzas River to protect the city of St. Augustine from invaders. It fired upon enemy ships only once. Matanzas became property of the United States in 1921. The fort was repaired and named a National Monument in 1924.
Depicting the fort in dark grey against a solid blue sky background, this Hiking Stick Medallion is a must-have! The flag of the Spanish empire still flies atop the flag on this pin and cannons are visible on the fort.
Grab this pin today to celebrate your travels or remind yourself of all the places still left to go!
