Second Lieutenant Richard Rowland Kirkland became the Angel of Marye's Heights on December 14th 1862, when after listening to the cries of wounded soldiers for hours he decided to act. He ventured out into the battlefield at great personal risk, armed only with canteens of water, and delivered water and aid to both union and confederate soldiers. Reportedly, Kirkland did not stop until he had delivered water to every wounded soldier.

This ornament, handcrafted and limited to 10,000 units, depicts a close up of the Angel of Marye's Heights memorial on the grounds of the Fredericksburg Battlefield. Set against a blue sky, with the patina on the monument visible, the center image shows Kirkland delicately feeding water to a wounded soldier.

Celebrate a bright spot of humanity and compassion in an otherwise dark chapter in American history with this holiday ornament, and at the same time get a unique limited-edition holiday item. Handcrafted in solid brass and finished with 24k gold, this ornament makes a great gift for history or civil war fans in your life. They'll remember you year after year.
