An effigy mound is a raised pile of earth which can be round, or in the shape of an animal or symbol, and usually contains one or more human burials. Many popular shapes are birds, bear, deer, bison, panther, and turtles. Effigy Mounds National Monument contains 206 mounds and 31 of those are effigies. This lapel pin features a falcon flying over the landscape of effigy animal shapes and the Mississippi River. Wear this pin as an homage to the sacred nature of this land and to commemorate your visit to this historic site.
