Propaganda posters have been used widely by various countries during wartime, whether to stir up young men to enlist or to communicate important messages to citizens. During World War II, the US government created a propaganda poster to attract women into the work force in order to meet the high demands for production of war materials. The result was Rosie the Riveter, the iconic, fictitious female who has come to be seen as a representative of American women laborers during World War II.
