Young Carl Sandburg traveled the Midwest collecting impressions of people, their music, stories, and dreams. His legacy still resonates with Americans today and is preserved in the national historic site established by Congress in 1968.

The historic residence has a history dating back to the 1830s. The current National Historic Site features the Sandburg residence and a 30 acre working dairy goat farm.
