Dedicated on October 15, 1966, Fort Stanwix National Monument stands in Rome, New York. Known as "the fort that never surrendered," Fort Stanwix originally protected an essential Great Lakes portage connecting the Mohawk River and Wood Creek, and later played a role as a Patriot stronghold in the American Revolution. Visitors enjoy the Willet Center and Museum, walking trails around the fort, and living history exhibits.
