ANP Lincoln Home Patch
An emotional Abraham Lincoln spoke these words on February 11, 1861, as he said farewell to the citizens of Springfield, Illinois. Lincoln was leaving his friends and neighbors of 24 years, and the home that he and his family had lived in for 17 years, to serve as President of a nation on the verge of Civil War.
Originally built in 1839 as a one-and-a-half-story cottage, the Lincoln home was later expanded into a two-story house to accommodate their growing family. Restored to its 1860's appearance, the house is now the centerpiece of Lincoln Home National Historic Site, and reveals Lincoln as husband, father, politician, and President-elect. This patch displays the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.
