Hinchliffe Stadium was an arena for many African-American athletes during the Jim Crow era. The stadium held 10,000 fans and was home to sports such as baseball, football, racing, and track and field. On the entrances to the stadium were three symbols of men participating in track and field events. Pictured on our pin are the three icons - a javelin thrower, a runner, and a shot putter – which symbolize the sports in which African-American athletes competed during a time of oppression.
