Hinchliffe Stadium was home to many African-American sports during the time that the Jim Crow laws were enforced. Many great athletes played in the stadium, like baseball players Monte Irvin and Hall-of-Famer Larry Doby. Entertainment events and rallies were also held at the stadium to raise money - Victory Bonds - during World War II. Entertainers such as The Abbott and Costello Show and Dick Jurgens performed at Hinchliffe Stadium. Our magnet features three symbols of athletes enclosed in red and gold circles, and these same symbols can be seen on the entrances to the stadium.
