Former President Jimmy Carter's childhood was anything but a silver-spoon paradise. His family lived on a peanut farm near Plains, Georgia, and worked the land there, which was located in an impoverished community where the young Carter became acquainted with the value of hard work and experienced influences that contributed to his future political policies.

Pictured on this embroidered patch is a likeness of Carter's signature as well as an image of that boyhood home, which today is owned and managed by the National Park Service. Visitors can see that location as well as Plains High School and the Plains Train Depot to get an up-close look at the places where the 39th president grew up.
