Mesa Verde National Park Patch

Approximately 1,400 years ago, the Ancestral Puebloans chose Mesa Verde, Spanish for ''Green Table'', for their home. For generations, spanning the next 700 years, they thrived in this high desert oasis of the Four Corners region, building elaborate stone communities tucked into the sheltered alcoves of the canyon walls.

On June 26, 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt established Mesa Verde National Park to preserve this spectacular reminder of ancient culture, the first national park of its kind.
