This book is quite fascinating as it is a firsthand account of a Private in the Revolutionary War. He has a phenomenal memory since he recorded these events later in his life, not while they were happening. Being it is a book about war - I found some parts hard to read and very brutal, though I know that is the nature of the beast.Reading this account did bring me a great appreciation for those who suffered greatly but stood fast and procured our freedoms. I am the beneficiary and I am very thankful. I purchased this book for my children and grandchildren in hopes it would bring a deeper appreciation and awareness of the many gifts we receive from courageous and unselfish acts of others. I reccomend it to Adults, who then need to decide what to share with Younger Readers.
